So, what is Stoneware?

GOOD TO KNOW

So what is stoneware?

We are so glad that you asked!

In short, it's pretty amazing stuff! Stoneware is a type of ceramic that is fired at very high temperatures, making it durable and suitable for both hot and cold uses with food and decoration.

Here are some key features and benefits of stoneware:

  • Heat Retention: Stoneware retains heat well, helping to keep your foods and drinks hot for longer periods, which is important because who wants to drink tepid coffee?! (YUCK!)

  • Durability: Stoneware is known for its durability and resistance to chipping, making it suitable and practical for everyday use in the kitchen. (Its not flubber, though... so best to keep it off the basketball court. LOL!)

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Stoneware mugs, dishes, bowls and such often come in a range of colors and glazes, and they can have intricate designs or patterns, adding an aesthetic element to your dining experiences. At Angel Tree Acres, all of our pottery is one of a kind! We do not mass-produce our wares so each item we make is unique, practical, sometimes a bit quirky, and always quite charming.

  • Versatility: (What we really mean is MOODY! From a potter's perspective, stoneware in its unfired form truly has a spirit of its own. Sometimes saint. Sometimes teenager. Need I say more?!) While primarily used for dinnerware, it can also be used for bakeware, storage and various ornamentals. (Stay tuned for our Christmas Collection. I'm so excited!)

  • Microwave and Dishwasher Safe: Depending on its firings and glaze, most stoneware mugs, bowls and bakeware are microwave and dishwasher safe* - making them convenient for reheating and cleaning. Unless otherwise noted, all of our food wares here at Angel Tree Acres Art and Pottery are both.

*Depending upon the pH of your water and the harshness of your detergent. If you have highly chlorinated water and use abrasive detergents, we recommend hand washing with mild dish soap instead to help prevent glaze deterioration.
